A source closely associated with the military council reported that six junta soldiers were injured in a landmine attack in Taungup township of  Rakhine State. They were airlifted by a helicopter for medical treatment.

On 18 December, at around 10:20 pm, a civilian car and two military vehicles carrying about 50 soldiers from Thandwe to Taungup were attacked with landmines by the Arakan Army (AA) in between Moke and Ta Pyawt villages under Taungup township.

"Six soldiers sustained serious injuries in the incident. The latest information suggests that they were airlifted by a helicopter to Mingaladon military hospital in Yangon. They were transported overnight," said the source.

He also stated that the injured six soldiers were airlifted by 11 pm.

However, Narinjara News is yet to authenticate the information that the injured soldiers were sent to the military hospital.

On that day, Taungup urban areas witnessed some landmine explosions and also gunfire, when the military council troops resorted to firing artillery shells from Taungup Tat Oo Kyaung and Chaung Kauk mountains, added the source.

Some artillery shells fired by the soldiers even landed approximately two miles away from Shwe Pan Taw village.
