An armed clash has erupted near the Shwe natural gas project and gas pipeline, which are major Chinese projects in Myanmar, close to Dhanyawadi naval base in Kyauk Phyu township of Rakhine State.

A resident informed Narinjara News that the clash erupted between the Arakan Army (AA) and junta forces at around 9 am on 22 December in the vicinity of Dhanyawadi naval base, near Thit Poke Taung village.

"We heard the sound of gunfire from both sides at around 9 am. By 10 am there emerged a temporary pause," said the resident.

He revealed that the AA members launched an RPG at a military vehicle coming from Thit Poke Taung naval base at around 9 am.

"A military council vehicle leaving the naval base was hit by the AA propelled RPG. Although there was some damage, the details are yet to be confirmed," he stated.

However, a local youth from Kyauk Phyu mentioned that a vehicle leaving  Dhanyawadi naval base was targeted by a landmine.

"At around 9 am, the AA members launched a landmine attack on two military vehicles near the naval base. I heard that among the two vehicles, the smaller one was hit by the landmine, causing significant damages," he added.

He mentioned that a senior military council officer was also present in the convoy, but no details about any casualty are confirmed.

Narinjara News can not independently verify whether it was a landmine attack or an RPG  fire.

The location of conflicts is the largest military base in the Rakhine region. Moreover, many  Chinese projects are located on Maday island, which is not very far from the place

During the night of 20 December, gunfire erupted involving the 542nd light infantry battalion in Kyauk Phyu township, the military council troops tasked with securities in Nga La Pwayt ward, and the junta forces stationed at Government Technological College (GTC).
