Following the capture of Myaung Bway police station in
Mrauk-U township of Rakhine State at around 2 am on Saturday by the
Arakan Army (AA), the junta troops fled from their station
and later abducted four Muslim villagers to use as human shields.
The abducted Muslim villagers are U Budah Ali (52 years old), Maung
Ah Bulu (13), U Maw Kyar Ali (56) and U Marcede (38) from Tha Yet Cho (Muslim)
village near Maung Nyo Kyun area.
According to a villager, who spoke to Narinjara News,
the Muslim individuals were abducted from their paddy field by the junta
soldiers after fleeing from Myaung Bway police station on 30 December in the
morning hours.
"Maung Nyo Kyun and Tha Yet Cho (Muslim) villages are closer in location.
When the junta forces retreated they abducted those Muslim villagers. Pi Pin
Yin Muslim village also faced gunfire attacks," said the villager.
The exact number of junta troops and police personnel
fleeing is yet to be known. They headed towards the 540 military battalion
stationed at the entrance of Mrauk-U township, which is approximately 10 miles
away from Myaung Bway.
On 28 December, the AA launched an attack on the
police station, where a group of junta soldiers were stationed by 6 am.
On Saturday morning, the police station was captured
and nine junta soldiers surrendered their weapons to the AA.
