Military junta chief senior general Min Aung Hlaing held a meeting with Sun Weidong, vice-minister of China’s foreign ministry, in Naypyidaw on Friday, where the military regime reportedly discussed on bilateral issues related to the border disputes, stability and peace in the shared localities.

Lieutenant-general Ye Win Oo, joint secretary of the military regime, lieutenant-general Yar Pyae, minister of interior affairs, U Than Swe, minister for foreign affairs, as well as other officials and  Chinese ambassador Chen Hai, special envoy for Asian affairs Deng Xijun with others were present at the meeting.

The present talks are being organised at the time of escalated conflicts in northern Shan State, where  Laukkai city is currently under the control of Myanmar National Defense Alliance Army (MNDAA).

Between 7 and 9 January, a third meeting is scheduled to  take place in Kunming of Yunnan province, where the junta delegation will meet representatives of Three Brotherhood Alliance (MNDAA, TNLA, AA).

The political analysts believe that the recent discussion between Min Aung Hlaing and Sun Weidong may impact the forthcoming discussions between the junta and Three Brotherhood Alliance.
