At least 2,389 junta soldiers including six brigadier generals surrendered to the Myanmar National Defense Alliance Army (MNDAA) in  Laukkai  under  Kokang self-administered zone in northern Shan State, said a statement issued by Three Brotherhood Alliance on Friday.

Moreover, 1,601 family members accompanied the surrendered security personnel.

Among those surrendered 1,895 soldiers and 228 officers including six brigadier generals laid their arms  in Laukkai and  2,66  soldiers did at point-2022 hill-based camp.

The incident of surrenders by the soldiers indicates the ending days of junta chief Min Aung Hlaing, asserted the statement.

It also mentioned that those who surrendered were transported to a safe location along with their destinations of choice.

The MNDAA took control of Laukkai township on the evening of 4 January and now it has full control over the area.

Brigadier general Moe Kyaw Thu from the junta's regional operation command (ROC) along with the entire battalion surrendered to the MNDAA.

The Laukkai ROC is the largest camp in the region of Laukkai and the soldiers requested for sending themselves to Lashio where the Northeast military command stationed. Accordingly they were transported in the MNDAA sponsored avehicles.

On 5 January, the complete surrender of the Laukkai ROC  along with thousands of soldiers from nearby battalion camps, converted the Kokang region (Laukkai) into a junta-free zone.

This development marks the precursor to the culmination of the military regime era in the history of Myanmar Tatmadaw, asserted the Three Brotherhood Alliance statement.

It is reported that the surrendered soldiers were dispatched from different parts of Myanmar to reinforce the Laukkai ROC but their effort failed.
