Twin Mro ethnic siblings were killed and their mother
was injured, when they were hit by an artillery shell-shrapnel fired by the
539th light infantry battalion stationed in Kan Sauk under Kyauktaw
township of Rakhine State.
The twin siblings are identified as Maung Tun Tun and
Ma Soe Soe (14 years old) from Kan Thone Sint (Mro) village. The injured mother
Daw Dar Win is over 40 years old.
The artillery shells fired by the 539th battalion exploded in and around Kan
Thone Sint (Mro) village at 8 pm on 12 January.
A local resident reported that the artillery shell
landed near the house of twin siblings, who were inside at that time.
Both suffered serious injuries due to the artillery shell-shrapnel and died
later. The mother somehow escaped with little injuries.
Both the siblings were shifted to Kan Sauk village
hospital, but succumbed to injuries there.
At approximately 6 pm on 11 January, artillery shells fired by the 539th
battalion exploded in Pan Be Chaung village resulting in tragic deaths of two
residents and injuries to four others.
Same day by 5 pm, artillery shells launched by the battalion
exploded in Ah Pauk Wa village causing a fire that engulfed a monastery and
several houses.
