Sittwe airport in Rakhine State has been struck by a drone engineered bomb attack. A local resident informed Narinjara News that the drone-dropped bombs fell on the important airport at around 8:30 pm on 15 January.

"I heard a loud sound at around 8:30 pm. It seemed like bombs were dropped by a drone," he added.

The drone-dropped bombs damaged some buildings at the airport complex causing injuries to some people too.

"One bomb fell in the VIP office. I heard that five individuals were injured. Due to the darkness nobody could be identified,”  he stated.

The residents speculate that the bomb attack was aimed at the junta's military helicopters which were undergoing refuelling.

Narinjara News tried to  contact Rakhine State security and border affairs minister colonel  Kyaw Thura and Rakhine State military council spokesperson U Hla Thein for details, but they did not respond.
