Intense clashes erupt as the
Arakan Army (AA) attacked 9th military operations command (MOC- 9) in Kyauktaw
township, a strategically important location dominating the entire Kaladan
valley of Rakhine State.
According to a military
source, the intensity of clashes remained high since 3 am today.
"The AA fighters have
been launching attacks on MOC- 9 for three to four days. The
fighting intensified in the early morning hours. We heard that the AA gained
the upper hand and entered into MOC-19," added the source.
At 11:40 pm on 24 January,
the Three Brotherhood Alliance declared, "We are making efforts to seize
the junta's division headquarters and bases one by one."
The locals refer to MOC- 9
in Kyauktaw as a division. A military analyst indicated that the division was
mentioned in the statement issued by the Three Brotherhood Alliance.
In the Rakhine region, the
AA enjoys complete control over Pauktaw township. Now intense fighting against
the junta soldiers, who are yet to surrender, continues in Mrauk-U,
Minbya, Kyauktaw and Rathedaung townships.
