At least 68 Myanmar border guard police personnel, 15 out of them seriously injured, fled to Bangladesh along with their weapons to save their lives amid the ongoing battle against the Arakan Army (AA) fighters, reported a number of Bangladeshi media outlets.

They entered Bangladesh at around 10 am on Monday after fleeing an AA attack on  Taung Pyo border guard camp in northern Maungdaw township of Rakhine State.

Their weapons were handed over to Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and currently those are being held at Naikhongchhari in Bandarban district, said Shariful Islam, the BGB  public relations officer. However, 15 individuals who sustained injuries are receiving treatment at MSF hospital. Two soldiers were shifted to Cox's Bazar hospital as they sustained serious injuries.

In the midst of the ongoing conflicts between the junta forces and AA fighters, many  bullets and mortar shells were fired causing injuries to three Bangladeshi nationals.

Following the AA fighters' attack on Taung Pyo border guard camp at 3 am on 4 February, the conflict persisted throughout the day. Finally the border guard camp  in Taung Pyo town had gone to the AA’s control.
