The sound of artillery shells on Monday prompted residents of Bangladesh border areas to evacuate their houses. The residents of three villages along the Ghumdhum border fled to safer places.

An artillery shell, fired from Myanmar, exploded in Jalpaitoli village of Naikhongchhari upazila under Bandarban district and killed a Bangladeshi woman and a man from Balukhali Muslim refugee camp, said a Bangladesh BGB’s report.

The dead woman is identified as Hosne Ara (55, wife of Badsha Mia) and the other one as Nabi Hossain (65) from  Balukhali Rohingya camp , reported Prothom Alo daily newspaper.

Additionally, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel arrested a Myanmarese family comprising husband, wife and three children while crossing the international border.

Lieutenant colonel Mohiuddin Ahmed, the Teknaf 2 BGB commander, stated that security was heightened along the border due to the ongoing conflict in bordering Myanmar localities.
