The gunfights near Myanmar’s Taung Pro town, close to the Bangladesh border,
erupted resulting in casualties on the Bangladesh side as well.
The residents reported that a helicopter belonging to
the Myanmar forces carried out airstrikes on the camps, recently captured by
the Arakan Army (AA), reported the Bangladeshi
media outlets.
The sound of artillery shells on Monday prompted
residents of Bangladesh border areas to evacuate their houses. The residents of
three villages along the Ghumdhum border fled to safer places.
An artillery shell, fired from Myanmar, exploded in
Jalpaitoli village of Naikhongchhari upazila under Bandarban district and
killed a Bangladeshi woman and a man from Balukhali Muslim refugee camp, said a Bangladesh BGB’s report.
The dead woman is identified as Hosne Ara (55, wife of
Badsha Mia) and the other one as Nabi Hossain (65) from Balukhali
Rohingya camp ,
reported Prothom Alo daily newspaper.
Additionally, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel arrested a Myanmarese
family comprising husband, wife and three children while crossing the
international border.
Lieutenant colonel Mohiuddin Ahmed, the Teknaf 2 BGB
commander, stated that security was heightened along the border due to the
ongoing conflict in bordering Myanmar localities.
