All involved in Sittwe market attack will face punishment: ULA/AA

Due to intentional artillery shelling by the junta's navy warship on the Korean port market in Sittwe, the capital of Rakhine State, 12 innocent Rakhine people were killed, said the United League of Arakan/ Arakan Army (ULA/AA).

In a statement issued on 29 February, it also added that 31 civilians were critically injured and 50 others were moderately wounded in the incident.

Despite there is no fighting going on in Sittwe, the junta soldiers deliberately launched the artillery shelling in a crowded market, which is condemnable, asserted the AA  Statement.

It made the junta responsible for the act of war crimes and they must be made accountable for the action, said the ULA/AA, adding that the incident will be investigated and the guilty be punished.

The AA also warned that those responsible for the death of seven innocent people in Mrauk-U locality will also be made accountable.

The AA calls upon the international community and also the neighbouring countries to denounce the junta for its serious war crimes.

With the ruthless junta continuing to target civilians in various towns, villages, houses, marketplaces, schools, clinics and hospitals, the ULA/AA urges the Rakhine people to remain vigilant over the developments.
