Artillery shelling in Sittwe injures a couple

A husband and wife sustained injuries as an artillery shell was fired by apolice battalion in Sittwe township of Rakhine State.


A Sittwe resident informed Narinjara News that the couple hails from  SetYone Su ward 2 under Sittwe township, who were injured by the artillery shellfrom the 36th police battalion in Bu May village near Sittwe University ataround 12 am on 15 March.


"Last night, an artillery shell fired by the police battalion from Bu MayMuslim village landed in Set Yone Su ward and  injured a couple. Theirnames and ages are yet to be known. They were taken to the hospital,"added the resident.


The junta forces are frequently firing artillery shells into Sittwe causingconcern among the residents.

 

"The soldiers are firing artillery shells on thetownship. Many people have already died. As the residents, we can't fleeanywhere. We are worried, but we have no choice,” asserted the resident.

 

On 29 February, an artillery shell fired by the juntaforces killed 21 civilians and injured approximately 30 others  at KoreaPort market, located west of Yan Pyay Marn Pyay pagoda. Later on 9 March, 7Muslims were killed and 9 others injured in  Aung Mingalar Muslim ward.


On 11 March, an artillery shell fired by the junta forces landed near number 7school in Par Da Leik village under Sittwe, injuring one male and one femalestudent, who were sitting in  examination. Later on 13 March, an artilleryshell struck the basic education post primary school in Shwe Pyi Thar village,causing damage to the school buildings.
