Over 100
Myanmar nationals were arrested for illegally crossing the Thailand-Myanmar
border in Kanchanaburi on 19 March, said the Kanchanaburi border patrol police forces.
It revealed
that starting early in the morning of Tuesday, 20 Myanmar nationals were
arrested along with a Myanmar driver and another 33 detained from
Thong Pha Phum checkpoint.
Later more
than 50 Myanmar nationals, who were hiding in Nong Lu village, were arrested by
the patrol officers.
Those nationals were arrested
following the establishment of a checkpoint by officers from the Sangkhla Buri
police station, 134th border patrol police sub-division, border patrol police's
special forces unit and Sangkhla Buri district officials in Kanchanaburi
province along the Thai-Myanmar border.
The
brokers, who were helping those nationals entering Thailand's Kanchanaburi
border, abandoned their vehicles and fled under the cover of darkness.
Those
arrested were planning to go and work in central Thailand. The drivers and
suspected human traffickers have been taken to the police station for further
legal procedures.
A large
number of Myanmarese youths have been leaving the country for opportunities in
foreign nations as they are afraid of staying in Myanmar for the junta's
conscription laws.
