The Wan Lark Foundation has provided financial
assistance to 600
displaced families of Rakhine State, who are now facing difficulties due to
scarcity of food items and medicines. The foundation has supported each family
with Kyats 142,500.
Foundation director U Khaing Kaung San informed
Narinjara News that the financial support is provided to internally displaced
persons (IDPs) in remote areas as they are facing a lot of difficulties to
survive.
“We offer financial aid to those fleeing a conflict, primarily due to challenges with food supply and shelter. The Rakhine residents are worried over the airstrikes targeting their monasteries and schools, thus further complicating access to medicine and food. Our financial support aims to help them to face the difficulties," he added.
Starting from 1 April, the foundation has extended
financial assistance of Kyats 142,500 each to 589 families from five villages
under Kyauktaw township.
"Previously, we assisted approximately 700
families,” he stated.
As the conflict intensified in the Rakhine region, a
large number of families left their places to take refuge in other areas.
A Rakhine IDP woman expressed her gratitude for the
support provided by the Rakhine social organizations to local IDPs, where INGOs
and other humanitarian organizations are yet to arrive.
"Due to the conflict, our family members fled to
different places. My grandson and I went in one way and his parents ran
in another way. I do not know how my son and daughter-in-law will manage their
food and shelter. When I hear about airstrikes, I am concerned if they are
targeting the area where my family is seeking refuge," she added.
According to the information compiled by the Arakan
Army (AA), the number of internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Rakhine State
exceeded 330,000 from November 2023 to March 2024.
