The Wan Lark Foundation has provided financialassistance to 600displaced families of Rakhine State, who are now facing difficulties due toscarcity of food items and medicines. The foundation has supported each familywith Kyats 142,500.
Foundation director U Khaing Kaung San informedNarinjara News that the financial support is provided to internally displacedpersons (IDPs) in remote areas as they are facing a lot of difficulties tosurvive.
“We offer financial aid to those fleeing a conflict,primarily due to challenges with food supply and shelter. The Rakhine residentsare worried over the airstrikes targeting their monasteries and schools, thusfurther complicating access to medicine and food. Our financial support aims tohelp them to face the difficulties," he added.
Starting from 1 April, the foundation has extendedfinancial assistance of Kyats 142,500 each to 589 families from five villagesunder Kyauktaw township.
"Previously, we assisted approximately 700families,” he stated.
As the conflict intensified in the Rakhine region, alarge number of families left their places to take refuge in other areas.
A Rakhine IDP woman expressed her gratitude for thesupport provided by the Rakhine social organizations to local IDPs, where INGOsand other humanitarian organizations are yet to arrive.
"Due to the conflict, our family members fled todifferent places. My grandson and I went in one way and his parents ranin another way. I do not know how my son and daughter-in-law will manage theirfood and shelter. When I hear about airstrikes, I am concerned if they aretargeting the area where my family is seeking refuge," she added.
According to the information compiled by the ArakanArmy (AA), the number of internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Rakhine Stateexceeded 330,000 from November 2023 to March 2024.
