Junta arrests former Kyaukphyu ALD chairman U Tun Lwin

The military junta arrested U Tun Lwin, a former Kyaukphyu township chairman of the Arakan League for Democracy (ALD) on 14 April at around 10 am, said the family members.

He was  arrested from his residence at Zedi Taung ward  by the military security affairs personnel who arrived by a white passenger car.

"They didn't provide any reason for his arrest. We have no information about his whereabouts. He occasionally shared messages on social media and that may be the reason behind his arrest," said a family member.

The junta forces also confiscated  one computer and a phone set used by U Tun Lwin.

"We have no contact with him and are now worried about his health,” added the family member.

U Tun Lwin represented the ALD in State Hluttaw after the 2015 election in Kyaukphyu township.

Often he answered queries  from the media persons about Kyaukphyu and continues to be a member of the Kyaukphyu social network.

The ALD  secured 11 seats in Rakhine State during the 1990 general elections. However, the party was dissolved as it failed to re-register with the current election commission under the military junta.
