Two Muslim children died on the spot in Maungdaw
township on the western border of Rakhine State while they were playing with a
remnant bomb. The incident took place in the afternoon of 21 April as the bomb
exploded suddenly.
The victims have been identified as Maung Abdu
Rohaim (aged 6) and Ma Doh Labi (7). Both hailed from Abu Jar village under
Tha Yet Taung village-tract.
"They played in the field and were unaware of a remnant bomb. The boy lost his right leg and died. The girl died from her injuries in both the legs and her head," said a villager, adding that they were already buried.
"These kinds of tragic incidents occur
frequently in the war zones. In recent days, more children are facing bomb
explosions as they go to play outside," he added.
On 13 April too, a remnant bomb exploded while the
children were playing with it at Taman Thar village under Maungdaw township
injuring seven young boys.
