The junta forces have blocked both the entry and
exit points of Maungdaw township in Rakhine State on Thursday and they
are now shooting and killing the pedestrians, said local residents.
The victims are identified as U Than Lone (50) and U Maung
Soe (30) respectively. The motive behind the killings remains unknown.
Both were shot dead at the 3-mile checkpoint by 11 am on 9
May, while they were riding a motorcycle from Ywar Thar Yar village
"The junta soldiers blocked Maungdaw’s entry and
exit points. A resident of Kha Yae Myaing village and another from Ywar Thar
Yar were shot dead by the soldiers at the 3-mile checkpoint. Moreover, they
shot at two youths coming from Sar Khone Bote village towards northern Maungdaw
areas. Another one was arrested by soldiers," stated a resident.
On 6 May, a group of soldiers belonging to
22nd division arrived in Maungdaw's Kanyin Chaung economic zone using
three landing craft. Even the Muslim soldiers, who received military training
from the junta forces, destroyed four bridges in Maungdaw township using mine
attacks. "
The Maungdaw people, who need to escape from the conflicts,
start using all other available roads. The soldiers are also
shooting over those fleeing residents,” said a local resident.
