Bangladesh foreign minister, Hasan Mahmud has disclosed that a lieutenantcolonel and two majors were among 138 Myanmar border guard personnel, whorecently sought refuge in their country.
During a meeting with reporters, prior to theparliamentary standing committee meeting on 12 May, the foreign minister madethe statement.
Around 500 members of Myanmar border guardpolice (BGP) and military personnel fled to Bangladesh due to an offensive bythe Arakan Army (AA) in Rakhine state.
"We sent them back after necessary talks withMyanmar, but 138 more fled to Bangladesh,” stated the minister.
Regarding the next relevant initiatives, the ministersaid they hope to send them as the recognised processes. Myanmar militaryregime is also interested to take them back, added the minister.
