Lieutenant colonel and 2 majors among 138 junta forces fled to Bangladesh

Bangladesh foreign minister, Hasan Mahmud has disclosed that a lieutenant colonel and two majors were among 138  Myanmar border guard personnel, who recently sought refuge in their country.

 

During a meeting with reporters, prior to the parliamentary standing committee meeting on 12 May, the foreign minister made the statement.

 

Around  500 members of Myanmar border guard police (BGP) and military personnel fled to Bangladesh due to an offensive by the Arakan Army (AA) in Rakhine state.

 

"We sent them back after necessary talks with Myanmar, but 138 more fled to Bangladesh,” stated the minister.

 

Regarding the next relevant initiatives, the minister said they hope to send them as the recognised processes. Myanmar military regime is also interested to take them back, added the minister.
