An elderly
man was killed and 6 others, including a woman, were injured when the navy of
junta forces fired artillery shells over Zedi Pyin village near Mayu mountains
of Arakan State.
The
deceased is identified as U Maung Chan Aye (69) from Ma Nyin Taung village, who
was fleeing the conflict in Zedi Pyin village under Rathedaung township.
The injured
individuals include Daw Thein Thein Nyunt, U Phyu Tha Oo, Maung Myo Min Khant,
U Aung Kyaw Sein, U Kyaw Soe Than and Ko Lin Chey, who were also fleeing the
conflict areas.
A local
resident informed Narinjara News that on 21 May in the early morning hours, the
navy personnel, stationed in the sea near Tha Win creek, fired artillery shells
without any provocation. At least four artillery shells exploded in Zedi Pyin
village.
"The
entire Rathedaung remains under the control of Arakha Army (AA) for a
considerable period. The people were living peacefully, but the junta
forces suddenly fired artillery shells," added the resident.
The injured
individuals were sent to nearby hospitals. They sustained injuries on their
legs, arms and other parts of bodies.
The AA
announced the capture of Rathedaung on 17 March. Meanwhile some displaced
persons could not return back to their places as there are still a lot of junta
planted landmines in certain areas.
According
to HDCO, between 13 November 2023 and 21 March 2024, at least 179 civilians
were killed and 468 were injured due to airstrikes and artillery shelling by
the junta forces in Rakhine State.
