Thinzar New, Narinjara News, 17 June 2024

The Arakan Army (AA) confronted a military junta column near the Dhanyawadi naval base in Kyaukphyu township of Arakan State resulting in a four-hour long battle, said the local residents.

A military source informed  Narinjara News that the AA fighters faced nearly 100 troops, including junta forces and military trained armed Muslims, as they came for military operations near Thit Poke Taung, around one mile away from the Dhanyawadi naval base.

Many soldiers are reportedly killed in the battle. Soon after the casualties, the 32nd police battalion in Kyaukphyu and the junta's artillery base at Hnan Phe Taung launched artillery shelling and drone bomb attacks over the targeted villages.

A female resident informed that many villagers fled from their places to escape drone attacks.

The villages like Khan Ti, Mi Kyaung Tet, Zai Chaung, Tai Chaung etc witnessed the frightened residents leaving their houses.

Recently, a delegation of Chinese diplomats visited Kyaukphyu, the hub of Chinese gas & oil pipeline projects, to study the ground situation. They tried to  assess the situation after the AA offensives in those areas where the Chinese projects are located and where the Myanmar military earns one billion US dollars every year.
