News, 17 August 2024
The Arakan
department of health issued a statement on 16 August, urgently calling for
medical assistance in Maungdaw township, which is now under the control of
Arakan Army (AA). The statement reported that five people had already died from
diarrhea caused by contaminated drinking water.
The
statement also added that the ongoing conflict and recent wave of floods in the
Arakan region created an urgent need for medical supplies.
Displaced
persons in Maungdaw are now suffering from dysentery and diarrhea. So there is
an urgent need for essential medicines to treat the patients.
The number
of displaced persons evacuated by the AA members reaches nearly 20,000 where
the process still continues.
The Arakan
People's Revolutionary Government is providing medical support to the common
people in the region using the available medicines, regardless of their
ethnicity or religions. But due to the large number of affected people, there
emerges an urgent need for additional medical supplies.
They now
expect urgent support from neighboring countries, international aid
organizations and civil society groups for the affected people.
