A
30-year-old man, who was arrested in Gwa township of Arakan State, could
not withstand the torture inflicted by the junta forces. While trying to
escape, he was shot by the junta soldiers and finally he drowned after jumping
into a creek.
The
deceased was Ko Thet Paing hailing from Sin Ku village under Gwa locality.
“He
had a wife and a child. The soldiers from the 536th light infantry
battalion based in Gwa, arrested him and took him to Satthwa for questioning.
They interrogated him in the yard of the monastery,” said a local
resident.
Ko
Thet Paing could not endure the torture during the interrogation. While attempting
to flee, he was shot at and out of panic he jumped into a creek namely Yae
Thu Ma , where he finally drowned.
“His
body showed many signs of torture,” added the resident.
Ko
Thet Paing was taken from his residence by the junta soldiers on 29 August. The
soldiers are stationed at the bridge and monastery in Satthwa village for some
time.
