At least 50 rounds were fired from the Myanmar border
at a Bangladeshi trawler carrying passengers in Naf river, reported Ukhiya News
on 11 September.
Fortunately, there was no casualty though the trawler
was hit by bullets in several places.
The incident took place in the morning hours on
Tuesday as the passenger trawler owned by Abdur Rashid was crossing the
river.
Later the trawler dropped the passengers at Shahpari
island jetty ghat.
It remains unclear whether the firing was done by the
Border Guard Force or Arakan Army.
Nashir Uddin, a passenger on the trawler, said,
"I was transporting my sick mother from St. Martin's to Cox's Bazar for
medical treatment in the service trawler and heading towards Teknaf. Then
near Gholar Char on Shahpari island we came under gunfire from
Myanmar."
The passengers on the trawler started shouting and
some took cover beneath the point of the vessel.
