India is reportedly willing to provide electricity to Paletwa in Chin State and
Sittwe in Arakan State, said a Mizoram-based Chin media outlet Khonumthung.
Citing a statement from the Mizoram government's
information department, Khonumthung reported that India’s foreign ministry
official B. Shyam made this announcement during a meeting with Mizoram's power
& electricity minister F Rodingliana on 12 September in Aizawl.
B. Shyam, joint secretary of India’s external affairs ministry stated during his visit to Mizoram that New is interested in providing electricity to both Paletwa and Sittwe. He also emphasized on the needed cooperation from the Mizoram government.
He and Mizoram minister Rodingliana also discussed trade promotions with
Myanmar and Bangladesh.
They also reviewed the status of Kaladan Multi-Modal
Transit Transport project and explored ways to address its challenges and
difficulties.
India's willingness to provide electricity is seen as recognition for the
Arakan Army (AA), which controls a large area of Arakan State and also
Paletwa town.
