World Food Programme (WFP)announced on 18 September that it will provide a one-month emergency foodsupply to 500,000 people affected by the recent wave of flood.
According to the WFP pressrelease, it will begin distributing emergency food supplies this week to theareas which are affected by the flood which was caused by Typhoon Yagi.
The one-month ration will includerice grains, fortified biscuits, nutrition products etc for the flood affectedfamilies to meet an urgent need.
Before Yagi, the WFP providedemergency assistance to 185,000 flood-affected people in Myanmar during July and August.
Sheela Mathew, WFP Myanmarrepresentative, stated that the recent flood was the worst one in Myanmar'srecent history.
“Super Typhoon Yagi caused themost severe floods in Myanmar’s recent history. Much of the country wassubmerged and some areas are witnessing their first flood in decades,"said the Myanmar WFP representative.
Due to Yagi, which hit Myanmar on11 September, Karen State, Kayah State, Naypyidaw, Bago region, Magway region,Mandalay region, Mon State and Shan State experienced heavy rains, severeflooding and landslides.
“The impact on food security willbe nothing less than devastating. More than 13 million people were alreadyfacing food insecurity in August. Our teams are working to respond to thegrowing needs,” she added.
