The
military junta carried out airstrikes on two monasteries and a police station
in Kan Htaung Gyi town under Myebon township of Arakan State,
killing two civilians including 11 year old girl and injuring seven others on the Sabbath day.
The
deceased includes a man and a woman, while the injured were seven who were
observing the Sabbath.
The junta
forces carried out two airstrikes using a fighter jet at around 4 pm on 25
September.
“Each
airstrike involved dropping two bombs. With two rounds of airstrikes, a total
of four bombs were released,” said a source.
One bomb
struck near the northern monastery in Ah Lel Pine ward, one near Laywadi
monastery on the outskirts of the town and two near the police station.
“A man who
observed the Sabbath at the northern monastery lost his arm, while another at
the Laywadi monastery lost his leg,” added the source.
More
details about the casualties are still awaited, as communication with Kan
Htaung Gyi becomes difficult because of the airstrikes.
Some
residential buildings were also damaged in the airstrikes.
Kan Htaung
Gyi is a sub-town which is under the control of the Arakan Army.
“Attacking
a peaceful town like this one is intended to instill fear among people and
disrupt stability in the area,” commented U Pe Than, an Arakanese
political analyst.
