Military junta arrests 6 Kyaukphyu residents, seizes banned tablets worth Kyats 2.2 billion

The military junta has arrested six individuals from Kyaukphyu township of Arakan State, from whose possession 1.478 million stimulant tablets worth Kyats  2.2 billion were seized, said Myanmar Alin newspaper.

 

The arrested individuals include Ko Mya Lwin, Ko Min Min Soe, Ko Thant Zin Naing and Ko Naing Lin Tun, who were picked up from a boat. Similarly,  Zaw Min Oo (also known as Ko Zaw) and Pyae Phyo Maung were arrested for their role in carrying the tablets from Yangon to Pauktaw.

 
The arrest was made by a team of navy personnel at 4  am on 23 September from a boat in Kyaukphyu locality.

 

Following the initial arrests, further investigation led to the capture of Zaw Min Oo (also known as Ko Zaw) and Pyae Phyo Maung. They were arrested from Seikkyi Kanaungto jetty in the Yangon region at 10 am on 24 September.

 

The suspects are also believed to have transported banned tablets from Shan State to the Yangon region and traded those via the waterways to Arakan State.

 

When Narinjara News inquired about the incident, a resident of Kyaukphyu stated that the arrests were yet to be known to them.
