Today, 123 junta forces, who fled to Bangladesh during
fighting with the Arakan Army (AA) will be repatriated to Myanmar.
In a related move, the military junta will also send
back 85 Bangladeshi nationals who were imprisoned in Myanmar.
Cox’s Bazar deputy commissioner Mohammad Salahuddin
confirmed the information.
"The Bangladeshis, who were imprisoned in
Myanmar, are returning after completing their prison terms. At the same time,
115 members of Border Guard Police (BGP) and 8 army personnel are going back to
Myanmar,” he added.
The group of Bangladeshis will arrive at Nuniarchara
jetty in Cox's Bazar. Later, the Myanmar team will return from the same jetty.
Of the 85 Bangladeshis, 26 were in Mawlamyine jail, 16
in Pathein jail, three in Chauk jail and the others were imprisoned in Arakan
State.
Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Teknaf-2 battalion
commander Lt Col Mohiuddin Ahmed stated, “During the conflict in Arakan, 123
BGP members, along with some soldiers, crossed Naf river and sought refuge in
Bangladesh. Now, we are sending them back.”
Previously, Bangladesh repatriated 330 junta soldiers
to Myanmar on 15 February 2024. It was followed by another batch of 288 on 25
April and 134 on 8 June.
