Today, 123 junta forces, who fled to Bangladesh duringfighting with the Arakan Army (AA) will be repatriated to Myanmar.
In a related move, the military junta will also sendback 85 Bangladeshi nationals who were imprisoned in Myanmar.
Cox’s Bazar deputy commissioner Mohammad Salahuddinconfirmed the information.
"The Bangladeshis, who were imprisoned inMyanmar, are returning after completing their prison terms. At the same time,115 members of Border Guard Police (BGP) and 8 army personnel are going back toMyanmar,” he added.
The group of Bangladeshis will arrive at Nuniarcharajetty in Cox's Bazar. Later, the Myanmar team will return from the same jetty.
Of the 85 Bangladeshis, 26 were in Mawlamyine jail, 16in Pathein jail, three in Chauk jail and the others were imprisoned in ArakanState.
Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Teknaf-2 battalioncommander Lt Col Mohiuddin Ahmed stated, “During the conflict in Arakan, 123BGP members, along with some soldiers, crossed Naf river and sought refuge inBangladesh. Now, we are sending them back.”
Previously, Bangladesh repatriated 330 junta soldiersto Myanmar on 15 February 2024. It was followed by another batch of 288 on 25April and 134 on 8 June.
