The main naval base in Arakan State, KyaukphyuDhanyawadi, is not far from the Ohn Kyi Kyun naval base, which was the targetof an artillery strike yesterday by the Arakan Army (AA).
The distance between the Kyaukphyu Dhanyawadinavy base and the Ohn Kyi Kyun naval base is around 4 nautical miles.
A local said, "We heard two loudexplosions coming from the Ohn Kyi Kyun naval base yesterday around 2:00pm." It was very noisy. Ohn Kyi Kyun also made small weapons fire audibleto us. We fled because we believed there to be violence."
The homeowner went on to say that people fromneighboring villages such as Taung Shay, Ka Nyin Taw, and Wah Taung fled interror as a result of the artillery shell explosions and small weapons fire.
The nearby people have been experiencingproblems from the Ohn Kyi Kyun naval facility, which is part of the KyaukphyuDhanyawadi military base.
Fishing boats are regularly targeted by smallweapons fire from the naval facility. Residents are stopped and subjected tovarious forms of harassment when they take a boat from their villages toKyaukphyu Town. The homeowner continued, "This naval facility mostlyblocks access to the canal between Kyaukphyu Town and the rural districts.
Military tensions continue even though there hasn't been anymajor combat between the Arakan Army (AA) and the junta forces in KyaukphyuTown.
There are currently no known information aboutthe attack on the Ohn Kyi Kyun fleet.
