Thai authorities in Chiang Mai have detained individuals involved in an internet fraud group, which also includes some individuals from Myanmar, according to Thai media outlets.
On November 26, authorities conducted raids at 11 places in Muang, San Sai, and San Kamphaeng districts in Chiang Mai, resulting in the apprehension of people implicated in the fraud.
During a press conference on November 27, the Commissioner of the Thai Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) revealed that eight Myanmar nationals had been apprehended as suspects in the operation involving a significant seizure of scam-related equipment.
During the raids, the authorities seized 642 SIM boxes, 590,000 SIM cards, 72 computers, 1,455 mobile phones, and 47 SIM card readers.
The Thai-Chinese gang consisted of two Thai citizens, five Chinese residents, and eight individuals from Myanmar as possible suspects.
One of the individuals taken into custody was a Thai woman, 30 years old, while her Chinese spouse is still on the run.
