A force of resistance has been formed to ensure access to the Ayeyarwady Region and attain success in combat, aligning with the Arakan Army (AA) assault arriving at Gwa Town, adjacent to the Ayeyarwady Region.
This entity is referred to as the Ayeyarwady Regional Military Command.
As per a release dated December 12, 2024, the Regional Military Command - Ayeyarwady was established under the leadership of the No. 2 Sub-Military Region within the Southern Military Regional Command of the People's Defense Force, functioning under the authority of the Ministry of Defense of the National Unity Government (NUG).
The announcement indicated that the Ayeyarwady Regional Military Command is organized as a unit, consisting of a column, an infantry battalion, and tactical formations, all made up of People’s Cadets.
The Ayeyarwady Regional Military Command is dedicated to rigorously adhering to the four commitments set by the People's Defense Force and complying with the ethics and directives issued by commands at every level.
In pursuit of its primary objective to dismantle the military regime, the Regional Military Command - Ayeyarwady is collaborating intensively with allied Ethnic Revolutionary Organizations (EROs) to gain entry to the Ayeyarwady Region and attain success on the battlefield.
The announcement also noted the launch of an official Facebook page, "Regional Military Command - Ayeyarwady," to disseminate military and defense updates and interact with the community.
Combat is currently escalating in Gwa Town located in Arakan State, adjacent to Ayeyarwady Region. The Regional Military Command - Ayeyarwady was established as the junta became apprehensive that the conflict might extend to the Ayeyarwady Region following the AA's capture of Gwa Town.
