U Khaing Thukha, spokesperson for the Arakan Army (AA), has denounced the junta's airstrikes on Kyauk Ni Maw village in Ramree Township, a civilian locality free from hostilities, labeling the assaults as war crimes.

"Assaulting unarmed civilians in an area free from conflict is explicitly a war crime," he stated.

The junta conducted airstrikes at 1:20 pm on December 8, employing fighter jets. Preliminary reports suggested that 40 civilians lost their lives, over 20 were hurt, and more than 500 houses were ruined in the Taung Pine ward, according to U Khaing Thukha.

The blaze, initiated by airstrikes at approximately 1:20 pm, was put out by 6:30 pm.

“The significant fatalities happened because the bomb hit a crowded Muslim village, which subsequently caught fire. Our administration, the public safety division, and nearby residents collaborated to put out the fire. We are offering every possible support to individuals impacted by the airstrikes," stated U Khaing Thukha.

As reported by Narinjara News, the number of fatalities has increased to 43, comprising both Muslim and Arakanese women and children. Around 50 individuals have sustained injuries.

A humanitarian worker claimed that the wounded desperately need blood and medical supplies, while those whose houses have been ruined are having difficulty locating food and housing.

"Everything is challenging at this moment.'The immediate requirements are blood and medication," the worker stated.

On December 29, 2024, the Arakan Army (AA) released a statement indicating its readiness to settle the conflict through political avenues instead of resorting to military force. The next day, junta chief Senior General Min Aung Hlaing called ethnic armed factions for peace discussions.

Nevertheless, no discussions have occurred between the two parties since the statement was released, and the junta has persisted with its airstrikes in Arakan State.

On December 31, military forces carried out airstrikes on Yoe Ta Yote village in Ponnagyun Township, resulting in the deaths of five civilians and injuring 10 more.

On December 1, airstrikes targeted Kha Yaing village in Taungup Township, resulting in four civilian deaths and over 20 injuries. On January 3, air assaults on Kan Htaung Gyi Hospital in Myebon Township resulted in the death of one woman.

On January 5, air raids on Aun Zone Pyin village in Ponnagyun Township led to 4 fatalities and 7 injuries.

From December 31, 2024, to January 8, 2025, airstrikes by the junta resulted in 57 fatalities and a minimum of 87 injuries.
