The military's airstrikes on locations where prisoners of war are being held temporarily have resulted in the deaths of 28 individuals, among them women and children.

Out of the 28 deaths, 8 were minors below 15 years old, and 21 were female.

On January 18, 2025, the fascist terrorist junta attacked an area close to Yan Chaung, Mrauk-U Township, where relatives of enemy prisoners of war were detained. According to a statement from the Arakan Army (AA) on January 19, a fighter jet executed the attack three times—at 4:45 pm, 4:46 pm, and 4:47 pm.

The relatives of the prisoners of war who were killed and wounded in the junta’s airstrikes are connected to junta soldiers that were captured during the conflict in the Arakan region. The AA is anticipated to release these prisoners soon.

The airstrikes struck as families were being held for a short time.

As per the AA statement, several of the injured individuals are getting emergency medical care, while others are critically hurt, and the number of fatalities could rise.

The AA also indicated that the terrorist fascist military junta, which has been suffering losses in conflicts nationwide, is conducting deliberate assaults on schools, hospitals, markets, places of worship, roads, bridges, IDP camps, and crowded areas, perpetrating war crimes routinely.

On January 8, 2025, at 1:20 pm, the junta attacked Kyauk Ni Maw village in Ramree Township with a fighter jet, resulting in 26 deaths, 12 serious injuries, and more than 15 with minor injuries.

Likewise, on the morning of January 11, 2025, the junta attacked Kyauktaw Town with bombs, resulting in the deaths of 9 civilians and wounding around 30.

The AA cautioned that from the beginning of 2025, the occurrence of these terrorist attacks by the fascist junta has escalated. It called on the public to increase their awareness of the risks associated with airstrikes and to take more care while using the internet and phones.
