The Arakan Army (AA) has captured two junta camps in the Arakan mountains, located over 40 miles away from Ann township of Arakan State, said a military source.

The two camps, Kyet Yae San and Pain Yae San, were taken by the AA fighters on 20 January.

"The junta deployed more than 300 soldiers in Kyet Yae San and Pain Yae San camps, but they could not prevent the AA fighters. Most of the troops have now retreated to Kan Myint Kan camp," added the source.

A male resident of Ann informed Narinjara News that the gun fighting is still going on near Kan Myint Kan camp, where the junta soldiers continue conducting airstrikes with the fighter jets.

"They dropped bombs from the fighter jets and fired artillery shells from the ground," he added while revealing that the fighting was fierce and the junta suffered heavy casualties.

Both the captured camps are located between Ann town and Kan Myint Kan camp.

The fighting continued near Kan Myint Kan and Nat Yae Kan camps, as the junta reinforced its troops in a last minute effort to safeguard these camps.

The AA stated that during the fighting around Ka Myin Kan (Kan Myint Kan), Pain Yae San and Kyet Yae San villages under Ann locality from 13 to 19 January, their fighters seized a large volume of arms and ammunition along with military equipment. They also detained a number of soldiers and recovered several bodies.
