According to Popular News based in Yangon, the military junta, the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA), and the Arakan Army (AA) are set to convene this month with mediation from China, as reported on January 31.

The TNLA and AA, the remaining members of the Three Brotherhood Alliance, are scheduled to engage in additional discussions with the Myanmar military following a ceasefire deal reached between the military and the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA) facilitated by China, as reported by Popular News.

Myanmar political analyst U Than Soe Naing told Narinjara News that the participation of both the TNLA and AA in the talks was unavoidable due to China's involvement.

“When China prompted the Three Brotherhood Alliance in northern Shan State, under its influence, to participate in peace negotiations and a ceasefire, Kokang consented to the ceasefire, depending on China for its existence. The TNLA, on the other hand, doesn't actually require a ceasefire, but they intend to engage in discussions. I think the AA will act similarly. When China communicates, they have no choice but to participate in the discussions. That's it," he stated.

As reported by Popular News, discussions between the military junta and the TNLA are scheduled for this month, with conversations with the AA planned to occur in roughly 10 days.

"The junta is asserting that it will engage in political discussions. In this scenario, they are advocating for political discussions and calling for involvement in the election process once more. They understand that the populace and various ethnic communities desire federal democracy, which is why they are currently committing to federal rights. Yet, these assurances and discussions have been repeated numerous times in the last 70 years, which is why people are skeptical,” U Than Soe Naing added.

Beijing has officially announced that the MNDAA and the military junta conducted two private meetings in mid-December 2024 and mid-January 2025, leading to a signed ceasefire agreement.

The AA has been in discussions with the military junta following Beijing's intervention, although no formal announcement has been issued.

As per a VOA News report dated December 14, representatives from the Arakan Army (AA) and Chinese officials convened in Tengchong, China, on December 1.

In a declaration on December 29, 2024, the United League of Arakan (ULA) highlighted that, with the proactive leadership of the People's Republic of China, their group, in collaboration with Kokang and Ta'ang, has been instrumental in stabilizing the China-Myanmar border, reducing violence, and addressing online fraud (Zha Pian), resulting in the signing of the 'Haigang Agreement.'

The ULA statement expressed, “We are consistently prepared to address the ongoing political circumstances and occurrences in Myanmar through political solutions instead of military actions."
