On March 3, the European Union (EU) declared €76 million in humanitarian assistance to aid individuals impacted by significant crises in South and Southeast Asia. According to a statement from the EU, of this total, €33 million is designated for individuals affected by the current conflict in Myanmar.

The announcement indicated that €32.3 million will assist Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh. Furthermore, €10.8 million will support refugees and local communities in adjacent countries and enhance disaster preparedness in the area.

Out of the total €10.8 million, €3.5 million will offer life-saving assistance to refugees and host populations in India, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand, €6 million will be allocated to the Philippines, and €1.3 million will be designated for disaster preparedness throughout Southeast Asia.

The €33 million designated for Myanmar will fund food aid and urgent nutrition, provide housing for displaced individuals, ensure access to clean water and sanitation, deliver essential services like healthcare and emergency education, promote mine risk awareness and aid for landmine victims, and enhance disaster readiness in a nation highly susceptible to cyclones and floods.

The financial support designated for Bangladesh will emphasize food aid and nutrition, the upkeep of shelters and various facilities in refugee camps, and delivering crucial services like healthcare, emergency education, and access to water and sanitation, especially in Cox's Bazar, home to many Rohingya refugees.

This year, the EU has boosted its humanitarian aid to Bangladesh, Myanmar, and the continuing refugee situation in Bangladesh.

According to the EU, all humanitarian funding from the EU is directed through partner organizations, such as international NGOs and UN agencies.
