Timber elephants, initially moved from Gwa, have been relocated once more because of fierce clashes in Thabaung Township, Ayeyarwady Region.

A nearby inhabitant stated, "There are more than 100 elephants. They are being transported from the logging area in Mayancho village, Thabaung Township, to Maubin. As this move is recent, I’m unsure of the precise location. The move has been happening for almost a week. “

The group of over 100 elephants comprises more than 40 from Daung Chaung Elephant Camp in Gwa Township, which were moved to Thabaung Township, along with roughly 200 logging workers, on October 14 and 15, 2024, prior to the Arakan Army (AA) commencing an attack on Gwa Town.

“Included among these elephants are those moved from Gwa and those that are already present at the Mayancho logging site in Thabaung. Now, with fighting breaking out in Thabaung too, they have been moved once more because it is unsafe,” the resident noted.

Clashes occur often in Thabaung, with a military source indicating fighting at the Kin Poon Chin camp, situated between Thabaung and Bawmi, beginning at 6:00 am on March 6.

"The battle continues at the Kin Poon Chin camp, situated between Thabaung and Bawmi, approximately 40 miles from Thabaung. It started this morning, and we can observe soldiers actively moving at the Pain Nae Kone checkpoint in Thabaung," the source reported.

Reports are now surfacing that clashes are occurring close to the 308th Battalion in Thabaung Town, yet Narinjara News has not been able to verify this independently.
