The military council has announced a 20-day ceasefire, yet airstrikes are still being reported in Kyaukpyu Township, Rakhine State. Kyauk Phyu holds significant importance for the junta because of substantial investments from China.
A resident of Kyaukphyu informed Narinjara News that the military council conducted two airstrikes using fighter jets near Pyin Shay village in Gong Chuen village track, Kyaukphyu township, at approximately 11:30 am on April 4.
"Today, a fighter jet also flew and arrived. The bombs did not hit the village but fell in the nearby regions," he stated.
Residents reported that this is the third bombing conducted by junta forces in the two days of April 3 and 4. On the morning of April 3, over 60 bombs were released by drones close to the village of Pyin Shay.
Moreover, yesterday (April 3) at approximately 4 pm, the junta forces deployed jet fighters, mechanized parachutes, drones, and naval units, targeting Chauk Chaung and Simaw in the Thit Phut Taung village area, as reported by an on-ground military source.
"The drone attacks have intensified in the regions. The junta continues to execute. Yesterday, drones, paratroopers, planes, and naval vessels were shooting towards the Thit Phut Taung and Gong Chuin regions. The military council declared a 20-day halt in firing due to a temporary ceasefire, but the junta forces are breaching it," he stated.
On April 2, the military council declared a 20-day ceasefire from April 2 to 22 to expedite relief operations following the earthquake.
Since the day this announcement was made, the military council has breached the ceasefire by carrying out airstrikes in multiple ethnic regions, such as Rakhine, Kachin, Karen, Sagaing, and Shan states.
