Intense heavy combat has been reported in two areas of Kyaukphyu Township, Rakhine State, where significant Chinese projects are situated.
The initial clashes occurred in a valley situated between Pri Sae Kay and Nan Fet Taung village near the No. (32) Kyuak Phyu Police Battalion and another location close to Pyin Shay village in the Kyauk Phyu Township.
A military source in Kyaukphyu informed Narinjara News that intense clashes have occurred between the military council and the Arakan Army (AA) from April 11th into the morning of April 12th.
"The military junta launches attacks on a daily basis. The AA is retaliating as well. The battle was intense throughout the day yesterday. The combat persisted until the morning of April 12. In Kyauk Phyu, clashes occur daily. The ongoing conflict is characterized by junta forces not withdrawing due to their fear that the AA will infiltrate the police battalion," he stated.
A local man stated that the military council is employing air fighters, heavy weaponry, drones, and naval forces while targeting the mountains close to the combat area.
“Armaments, unmanned aerial vehicles, and the fleet are continuously firing. No one has sustained any injuries so far," he stated.
Residents reported that the military council has additionally stationed troops in the Thit Phut Taung region, where the largest Dhanawaddy naval base is positioned along the Rakhine coastline, and there has been gunfire between both sides since the military council sent troops near Pyin Sya village on April 9.
Approximately 20 members of the military council were reported killed, and some ammunition was confiscated, as per sources close to the AA.
Following the declaration of a month-long ceasefire by the three Northern Brotherhood Alliance groups, including the AA, in response to the earthquake, the military council announced a ceasefire from April 2 to 22.
Nevertheless, since the moment the military council announced its ceasefire, it has been conducting aerial strikes and military incursions in various regions and states, including Rakhine.
