The military has targeted Tun Ra Wai (an ancient village) in Rathedaung Township, situated 20 miles north of the state capital Sittwe in Rakhine State, recovering 13 civilian bodies and injuring over 20 individuals, according to U Khaing Thukha, spokesperson for the Arakan Army (AA).

"Preliminary reports indicate that 13 civilian corpses have been found. Additionally, 20 others are hurt. Twelve homes have been devastated,” he stated.

At approximately 10 AM on May 13, a military council jet fighter dropped two 500-pound bombs on the village of Tun Ra Wai (old).

He mentioned that the death toll might increase since additional individuals remain trapped beneath the debris. The village is situated 3.5 miles to the east of Rathedaung town and has more than 200 homes within it.

The villagers mentioned that it is a village where numerous displaced individuals from the downtown Rathedaung area have resided.

The military council has declared a ceasefire extension from May 6 to 31; however, they are not adhering to their announcement in practice, U Khaing Thu Kha stated.

"On our end in Rakhine, the junta's air forces are striking us daily. They are shooting with heavy armaments. They are using drones to fire. This is the reason why the ceasefire declared by the junta is not being put into effect on the ground whatsoever.”

He also mentioned that the military council is targeting innocent civilians.

"Another aspect is that the terrorist military council is targeting innocent individuals. Today's assault occurs in a location where no fighting exists. However, they are intentionally targeting innocent individuals in Rakhine. This indicates that the military council is engaging in a significant war crime. Consequently, the military council must be accountable and responsible," he remarked.

U Myo Kyaw, general secretary of the Arakan League for Democracy (ALD), which secured 11 parliamentary seats in the 1990 elections, stated that the international community must take action against the military council, deemed an adversary of the people.

"I want to express that the global community must act against this organization that has carried out such violations of human rights. The regime did inhumane acts despite facing international pressure," he stated.

The military council has been conducting airstrikes, drone attacks, and artillery bombardments on villages, schools, hospitals, and places of worship housing civilians across Myanmar, including Rakhine State, leading to the daily deaths of civilians, including women and children.

On the morning of May 12, the military council targeted the Oh Htein Dwin village school in Depayin Township, Sagaing Region, resulting in the deaths of over a dozen students, along with two teachers, and injuring numerous others.
