The Special Advisory Council on Myanmar (SAC-M) has cautioned that China’s obvious meddling in Myanmar’s domestic matters will not only extend the people's suffering but also hinder true peace.
The SAC-M stated that China's military backing for the oppressive regime and its overt meddling in Myanmar will not rescue the regime but merely extend the anguish of the Burmese citizens and postpone the emergence of true peace.
“China’s military backing of the ruthless junta and its bold interference in Myanmar is an ill-considered wager. It will not rescue the junta; it will merely extend the pain of the Myanmar people and postpone true peace. And when the junta ultimately collapses – which it certainly will – the citizens of Myanmar will recall precisely where China positioned itself," the statement noted.
Despite China's consistent claim of a non-interference policy, its actions in northern Shan State indicate that it primarily seeks its own interests, which are compromising true peace and stability for the Burmese people.
China's involvement in Myanmar's northern Shan State indicates that it prioritizes its own interests above the genuine peace and stability for the Myanmar people, regardless of its ongoing assertions of a non-interference policy.
On March 23, 2025, facing heavy pressure from the Chinese Government, the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA) consented to exit Lashio city in northern Shan State, as per local media reports, SAC-M noted.
The capitulation of Lashio marks the closest involvement of the Chinese government in the Myanmar conflict since the failed coup in February 2021.
The transfer of Lashio to the Burmese military regime by the MNDAA is a betrayal of the sacrifices made by countless revolutionaries who lost their lives to free the city.
The Special Advisory Council on Myanmar (SAC-M) stated on May 15 that when the military junta inevitably collapses, the Burmese people will undoubtedly recall China's alignment.
