Junta troops are said to have withdrawn to Chinese power facilities, offering fierce resistance after AA took control of two military sites close to the Chinese project in Kyaukphyu on Rambree Island, the largest island along the Arakan coast.
According to a local military source, the Myanmar junta soldiers are pulling back to Chinese power stations and protecting themselves after the AA took control of a checkpoint in Mindat Taung village and a camp at the Government Technical Training School in Kyaukphyu Township on May 19.
"They are safeguarding the area around the Chinese OGT and its vicinity and are bolstering the force with approximately 300 soldiers to protect against the AA. The key point is that the military believes the AA will refrain from targeting the Chinese initiative, he stated.
The two military bases presently held by the AA are situated close to the Chinese energy project, Malakyun, on 19 May 2025.
"The combat is extremely fierce. The AA is nearing Kyaukpyu now. The military is currently employing drones and paratroopers for its defense," he stated.
According to military sources, the drones and paratroopers employed by the military are made in China and Russia and have been extensively utilized in the ongoing conflict.
Kyaukpyu hosts the 34th Battalion, 542nd Infantry Regiment, 543rd Infantry Regiment, the Thanyawaddy Naval Base, an important navy facility in Rakhine state, and the 32nd Combat Police Battalion.
"Yesterday, roughly 200 individuals came from the two infantry battalions. Over 100 were present from the navy. They are refilling. The power might exceed 300. Each of these columns was directed to the Chinese factory zone. They sheltered from the Chinese project zone and struck the AA. If the AA retaliated, they charged toward the factory zone," he stated.
Despite the junta regime carrying out bombings in the vicinity of the combat near Min Tak Taung and Lake Kamaw villages during airstrikes by fighter jets, drones, and power-paras, the AA has taken control of two outposts near the Chinese factory, a military source informed Narinjara.
"They are using drones and planes to bomb the camps, villages, and forests held by the AA. They refrain from targeting the region associated with China. Typically, they strike the vicinity around their homes with drones to hinder the AA from approaching. I believe they are nervous about targeting Chinese initiatives.
The conflict in Kyaukphyu, which started on February 20, has continued for over three months by May 22. Amid the conflict, the AA has allegedly seized control of several villages and positions where the military council is located.
Throughout the ongoing ceasefire, the military council is simultaneously conducting counter-insurgency missions by deploying forces and launching attacks on the AA.
Sources reported that in the current conflict in Kyaukphyu, the military junta has experienced losses, retreated, and numerous junta troops were taken prisoner by AA.
