Three civilians, among them a woman, sustained injuries during the junta airstrike in Kyaukphyu Township, Rakhine State, which occurred on 22 May 2025.

A local resident from Kyaukphyu informed Narinjara that the junta fighter jet struck the vicinity of Mindat Taung village, which had been taken over by the Arakan Army (AA) the day before.

"The jets targeted an area near Mindat Taung and another area about a mile distant. The bombs struck the area while the residents were fleeing. To the best of our knowledge, there are three individuals. They sustained injuries while fleeing. There may be additional individuals suffering injuries from the airstrike," he stated.

AA seized the military outpost in Mindat Taung village along with the camp at the government's industrial training school on May 19. Following that, fierce combat erupted between two armed factions—AA and junta forces—close to the Mindat Taung region.

Local sources report that the junta is currently employing not just fighter jets in its conflict with AA in Kyauk Phyu Township but also drones and paramotors supported by China and Russia.

In the assaults, a number of civilians lost their lives, and numerous others were hurt.

On April 24, the junta launched air strikes using a suicide drone on Yenang Taung village in Kyaukphyu Township, resulting in the death of a displaced 60-year-old woman and injuring two men. In a similar manner, on April 25, the military junta targeted Lay Khamaw village in Kyaukphyu Township with a drone strike, resulting in the deaths of three women.

A woman from Kyaukphyu stated that the military council troops are shelling residential areas of villages from their bases, utilizing drones and jet fighters, which is driving locals to flee, as reported by a resident of Kyaukphyu.

"The military is launching attacks with drones and different weapons such as artillery, prompting us to escape from village to village to keep our lives safe. While we are fleeing, our means of survival are quite challenging," the woman remarked.

Following the AA's seizure of two military council outposts in Kyaukphyu, reports indicate that the military council forces are withdrawing to the vicinity of the Chinese Power Distribution and Waste Plant (OGT) in Gong Chui District, Kyaukphyu Township, where they are actively resisting the AA.(Photo- Old file)
