In the clashes in and near Kyaukphyu, Rakhine State, a brigadier general, who was a division commander of the military council, was killed, while another lieutenant colonel was captured by the AA. Reports indicate that several ranks of junta troops in the battalions based in Kyaukphyu are facing chaos due to deserters and those who have surrendered.
Brigadier General Kyaw Myo Aung, the tactical commander of the 11th Infantry Division stationed in Intaing, Yangon Region, was killed in the battle of Kyaukphyu on May 26. Another division commander (first class), ID No. Army/37532, Lieutenant Colonel Kyaw Lin Kyaing, was captured by the AA on May 30 together with several of his soldiers.
A deputy battalion commander and five other soldiers also hospitalized after being struck by artillery shells have reportedly died in the hospital.
A report by BBC (Myanmar section) stated that six junta troops, including a deputy battalion commander, were killed in an AA drone strike on a military junta post near a Chinese state-owned natural gas power plant on May 29.
Additionally, numerous soldiers from the military council have surrendered to AA under the white flag, while others are fleeing and abandoning their posts, according to ground military sources.
“Soldiers are escaping following the rise in troop casualties in Kyuakphyu confrontations. Numerous soldiers have also surrendered under the white flag. Even Chinese troops fled. The troops are also running away. The combat is extremely intense," the military source stated.
As a result of these conditions, the military forces stationed in Kyaukphyu have become chaotic and are close to falling apart, according to a resident.
“Along with the on-ground losses, numerous soldiers are fleeing out of fear. Some soldiers have also raised the white flag and surrendered. The situation is indeed impacting the administrative community in Kyaukphyu. There's a lot of fear and anxiety in the military,” he remarked.
