A jet fighter crashed and caught fire in the Sagaing Region of northern Myanmar around noon on June 10.

The People's Liberation Army (PLA) claimed in a statement that the aircraft was shot down and destroyed by fire. In contrast, the military council asserted that the plane went down due to mechanical failure.

The crash occurred near Sapar Sei village, approximately 2,000 meters east of Mintaipin village in Pale Township, an area currently experiencing heavy fighting. The jet is reported to have crashed at around 12:15 PM.

According to the PLA, the aircraft was shot down during the operation to capture the Kandaung police station in Pale Township.

In an evening statement on June 10, the military council claimed the jet fighter had crashed into a monastery compound in a village within Pale Township, subsequently igniting a fire.

Local residents have reported finding debris from the aircraft and a human skull at the crash site.

The PLA indicated that it is still investigating whether the pilot was killed in the incident.

On June 10, three military council jet fighters conducted airstrikes on the Kandaung police station, with PLA forces successfully shooting down one of them. The PLA has been attacking the Kandaung police station since June 2.

Earlier, on May 20, the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) shot down two military helicopters transporting reinforcements to Bhamo, Kachin State, using suicide drones. The military council, however, incorrectly attributed the helicopter crash to mechanical failure.
