Over 200 displaced households in Ponnagyun Township, Rakhine State, have been flooded due to heavy rains and are in urgent need of emergency assistance.
Since June 15, heavy rains have affected Rakhine, resulting in flooding in low-lying areas and roads in Ponnagyun Township, particularly since the morning of June 18.
Many displaced families have been evacuated as their homes were also impacted by the flooding, according to a spokesperson for the Ponnagyun Youth Association (PYA), which is assisting those affected.
"In the flooded areas, the roads are submerged, making it impossible for motorbikes and cars to pass. We have relocated the displaced individuals to areas that are not flooded. In some locations, houses have been completely submerged, leaving families without food and making it difficult to cook or eat," he stated.
The Youth Association is currently providing emergency food and shelter to displaced individuals, but there is an ongoing need for additional support.
A low-pressure area has developed in southwestern Bangladesh and the adjacent Indian state of West Bengal since June 17, leading to heavy rainfall in Rakhine.
