At least seven junta soldiers were killed and 22 were taken prisoner during a clash with revolutionary forces in Kyaukgyi Township, Bago Region, according to a report from the National Unity Government (NUG) Defense Ministry.
On June 26, the People's Defense Force (PDF) and the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) conducted a coordinated attack on junta camps in Kyaukgyi Township as part of the "Sittaung River Basin Operation," which falls under the command of the 2nd Military Region (Joint Operations Command).
The operation resulted in the deaths of seven junta members, while enemy troops retreated in disarray, suffering significant losses. Additionally, 22 soldiers were captured as prisoners of war.
During the engagement, revolutionary forces seized 28 weapons, ammunition, and a substantial amount of military equipment.
The NUG's Ministry of Defense stated that the captured prisoners are being held in accordance with the Geneva Conventions to ensure their rights are protected.
The assault was executed by a coalition of units from the People's Defense Forces, including the No. 2 Operation Area of the Bago Region Military Department, Strategic Battalion 3702, Special Commando Battalion, and Spring Warrior Column, alongside KNLA's Battalion 8 and Battalion 9.
