Several detainees and prisoners who were allegedly arrested and held in the police station and prison in Kyaukphyu, Arakan State, are reported to be missing and being conscripted into the army.

Narinjara learned from a female source that several inmates at the Kyaukphyu police station, who the military council claims were detained and arrested for their suspected connections to the AA, have been missing since last June.

“A few young and middle-aged individuals who were held at the Myoma police station are unaccounted for. They didn't vanish all at once. They were removed one by one. The majority of those who were arrested were said to have connections with the AA. According to reports, some of them were recruited to attend military training. I don’t know their names or addresses,” she stated.

Additionally, a local man in Kyaukpyu said that several inmates who were given a jail sentence on suspicion of having ties to the AA were transferred from Kyaukpyu Prison to the Military Security Bureau (Sarapha) office for interrogation before being sent to the Dhanyawaddy Naval Base.

“Some inmates who have connections to the AA are being questioned at police stations and the Sarapha offices. Additionally, I have heard that over the past month or two, a few young and middle-aged convicts who are physically fit and active have been transferred to the Dhanyawaddy Naval Base. They were not all dispatched at the same time. They were dispatched in batches,” he stated.

There are rumors in the area that the missing captives and detainees have been transported overseas for militia training, although their whereabouts are unknown.

Narinjara News has not been able to independently verify this information.

According to the Myanmar Political Prisoners Network (PPNM), 351 prisoners, including political detainees, were transported by military council naval ships from Sittwe Prison in Arakan State to Pathein Prison in Ayeyarwady Region in October 2024.

Near the No. (32) Police Battalion in the Gong Chwain village-tract, the Malakyun village area, and the Kapthapyay village area close to the Dhanyawaddy Naval Headquarters, fierce battles are now taking place between the AA and the military council forces.
