Since the ceasefire ended on June 30, the conflict has increased close to Kyaukphyu, where Chinese projects are situated, according to a local who is monitoring the military situation there.
The conflict broke out yesterday. Today marks two days since the truce has ended. Additionally, the military council is on the offensive. The AA is launching another attack while encircling.
Taking advantage of the ceasefire, during which the Arakan Army did not engage the junta forces, the military council seized the opportunity to act. The council is now concerned that the AA is back on the offensive.
“Muslim soldiers who graduated from military training and militia members make up the majority of the current casualties. A few have been captured. Both sides are using drones and heavy weaponry to fight each other. It's taking place in two locations," he said.
In the area between Pyine Say Kay hamlet and the No. 32 police station, as well as between the No. 32 police station and the Chinese gas treatment facility (OGT) in the Gong Chwain region of Kyaukpyu Township, there has been fierce fighting since July 1.
The military council is using drones more and more frequently, with the help of Chinese drone technicians, to target villages that are not engaged in the conflict, according to a refugee woman from Kyaukpyu who spoke with Narinjara,
"We flee if there are drones in the sky. We were afraid of drone strikes, so we didn't want to live in the houses. They used drones to attack on villages if there's no fighting there. They also used drones if there's fighting. The navy occasionally shot at villages as well," she stated.
Although not independently verified, there have been claims in the region that some Chinese drone technicians have been wounded in the fighting and have fled due to their lack of combat experience.
In the Kyaukpyu conflict, the military council has been utilizing Chinese technical help to support its ground operations with air and naval forces and drones.
The junta's troops have been employing naval artillery during rainy days, while the military council's troops have been utilizing drones during sunny days.
In addition to utilizing drones, artillery, and snipers on the ground to engage in guerrilla warfare, the Arakan Army has also killed even the highest-ranking commanders of the Myanmar Army side.
Over 22,000 people have been displaced from their homes in the area as a result of intense combat between the Arakan Army (AA) and the military council since February 2025.
