The Myanmar Military Security Studies Institute (MDSI) quoted military officials as saying that the ongoing struggle in Arakan (Rakhine) State with the Arakan Army (AA) has claimed the lives of two more brigadier-general-ranked members of the military council as of June 30.
A group of civil disobedience movement (CDM) combatants from the Myanmar army founded the Myanmar Military Security Studies Institute (MDSI).
The two brigadiers who passed away were Brigadier General Myint Shwe, commander of the Pakokku-based Division-101, and Brigadier General Ye Kyaw, commander of the Mong Pan-based Saka Kha-17 (Military Strategic Command Headquarters), who was dispatched to the Arakan (Rakhine) battlefield and then passed away.
The two were killed in the latter half of 2024, according to the announcement.
While being sent to reinforce the operation in Maungdaw, northern Rakhine State, Brigadier General Ye Kyaw, one of the two commanders, was killed in the AA attack in December 2024.
In a similar vein, it was reported that Brigadier General Myint Shwe, the head of Division 101, was killed or missing in action around August 2024 while combat raged in Thandwe Township, southern Rakhine State.
Brigadier General Myint Shwe, ID No. (Army) 29374 and from DSA batch 39, was promoted to Division 101 by the Adjutant General Office and replaced Brigadier General Min Min Tun, who was taken captive by the TNLA as a prisoner of war.
Following his promotion, he was dispatched to the Thandwe battlefield, where, according to the statement, he vanished or passed away after being sent there.
The Military Council lost two brigadier general-level deputy commanders and division commanders who were killed, four were dead or missing, four were taken prisoner of war, and a total of ten high-ranking officers were killed in the Arakan battlefield with the AA during the conflict.
The commander of the Tasara 2/300 Medical Battalion, Brigadier General Tun Tun Win, is said to have died in the battle of Ann.
On September 26, 2024, the Arakan Army (AA) began its assault on Ann, which it eventually seized around three months later, on December 20.
The AA seized Brigadier General Thaung Tun, the deputy commander of the western division command , and Brigadier General Kyaw Kyaw Than, the division's chief of general staff, during the battle.
